Nigerian blogger arrested for allegedly defrauding UK-based activist of N2.2m

Apeh Peterhot a Benue born blogger, has been picked up by the Nigerian Police in Lagos for allegedly opening a fake Facebook account in the name of Queen Anne Ochoga and using it to defraud one Mr. Philip Agbese, to the tune of N2.2m.

An innocent pregnant woman, Anne Johnson, whose name first name is also Anne, was implicated in the said transaction, as the blogger cunningly used her bank account details, under the pretence that he had issues with his BVN.

With the fake account, he claimed to be a car dealer. As a philanthropist, Agbese thought it was wise to patronize a fellow Nigerian, not knowing that the face behind the account was actually Mr Apeh whom he had helped in the past. ..

After receiving the payment, Peterhot allegedly posted an obituary on Facebook, announcing the death of Anne, apparently to close the deal and to make Agbese believe that the person he transacted business with had died. .

Anne, however, denied that she was dead as posted on Facebook, denouncing the fake Facebook account. Luck ran out of Peterhot, when the pregnant woman turned herself in at the police station and made confessional statement.

The culprit, who has been on the run for days, was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He is currently being held at Idimu Police Station, Area M, Alimoso Division of Lagos command, pending a signal from the FCT command, where the matter is being handled.
